Our client was attacked by her next-door neighbor’s dog, resulting in a low back injury and scarring. The homeowner only had $300,000 of insurance coverage, which our team demanded numerous times. In response, we were told time and again that the defendant dog owner’s insurance company would not pay more than $15,000. During litigation, our team uncovered evidence that the defendant dog owner ignored her vet’s advice to muzzle her dangerous dog at all times when in public. This evidence convinced the court that Plaintiff should be allowed to her amend her complaint to include a request for punitive damages. On the first day of trial, the insurance company for the dog owner paid more than three times the insurance policy limits.
